ALS, 1826 September 16 : Boston, to James Arnold.

Written while mayor of Boston, Quincy writes to his friend Arnold regarding the latter's invitation to visit his family in New Bedford. Quincy relates his recent adventure of 13 days in Maine, where he "had the privilege of inspecting the city regulations of the direct descendants of the aborigines, viewed their navigation, took a voyage on the Penobscot in a birch canoe ..." Upon his return to Boston, he says, he realized that his absence was not that much missed, so he looks forward to visiting Arnold in New Bedford soon.
